Did you notice that in French, when we use possessive pronouns, we only care about the noun that is following it. But we do not care about who is owning it : It can be a girl, a man, a dog, or whatever, it won’t influence the pronoun, unlike English. In English, thanks to the pronoun like “Her” for example, we know who is the owner.
Introduce your family in French
If you need to refresh your knowdege on personal pronoun, check this article right here. In French, when we want to introduce somebody, we do not use the corresponding pronoun but we use the neutral form of it. For instance, if you wanted to introduce your mother, in English you would say : “She is my mother” or “This is my mother“. In French, we would say : “C’est ma mère“. We actually would do it the same way for anybody or anything :
C’est mon père (He is my father) / C’est mon chien (It is my dog) / C’est ma voiture (That is my car).
As you can see, in French “c’est” can be translated by many pronouns : he – she – it – that – this.
Let me introduce my family in French
C’est mon mari. Il s’appelle Nicolas. Il est menuisier. Ce sont mes fils. Ils s’appellent Wael et Salim.
Wael a quatre ans (4) et Salim a huit mois (8 months old). J’ai un frère et une sœur. Ils habitent en France.
(Well…If you followed this blog, you know that he is not really my husband! 🙂 But my boyfriend, mon petit-ami)
NB : Ce sont is the plural for C’est.
